Dirty greenhouse

Well not dirty - more filthy really!

I hope some of you will admit to being as lazy (if thats the right word!) as me when I admit that we have NEVER cleaned our greenhouse. Now dont get me wrong - we give it a good sweep out in the spring and tidy as we go but we havent ever had time to clean the glass since we inherrited it when we moved in 4 years ago

What should we use to clean it and have you any tips to make this orrible job any easier?

I use one of those car wash brushes on the end of a hosepipe with washing up liquid in it and then a separate brush for any really manky areas. To me it's one of the essential spring time tasks which I do before planting out the toms etc so that I get rid of any nasties lurking (usually find quite a few slugs etc) and maximise the light into the greenhouse. I know people who do it in the autumn instead / as well to make sure that winter light is good etc but I never have the time to do that too. Don't get hung up on getting it streak free (that isn't going to happen here!) but it's well worth doing and certainly a lot further up my list of essential things than washing pots!

I usually just give the glass a quick wipe but this year I took them all out and washed them all properly, I even managed to fix a few cracks with glass repair tape

I'm afraid I have to put my hand up to washing down all my greenhouse when the bubble wrap comes down ready for spring and just before it goes back on for winter - so twice a year

Pigeons seem to love sitting on my greenhouse so the roof is always covered in poo

I'm lazy, I just give it a blast with the power wash when I'm cleaning car or paving.

have actually washed a few pots this year and put them in the greenhouse, greenhouse new, lets see if i clean it in the autumn hmmmmm

Nor me just brush them out as I need them.Or use loo rolls.
Greenhouse is new so still all sparkly at the mo. We'll see this time next year

Mine gets swept out, and then washed down with bleach. As it's at the allotment, this involves lots of faffing around with boiling pans of water on the stove... I really think it's worth it though, especially as I always end up with a bit of botrytis towards the end of the season.

I scrub mine down each spring (but individual panels migt get a quick wipe if the birds have been busy). I add jeys fluid to the water, and a little washing up liquid (don't know if this is what I should be using though??). I also use those candles that are supposed to kill off unwanted bugs.

righto - I promise to do better now! Mentioned to Mr D that it needed doing - possibly this weekend and he agreed. Now just have to educate girls! - to be good so we can get on not to do it for us! mind you.........
