Reglazing the house.

Has anyone any tips on reglazing an aluminium greenhouse?

The reason.

1. Lots of moss behind the glass
2. Some broken glass
3. Panes slipped and blocking the gutter

Plus the need to feel that I am busy during these short miserable days.

I also need a new opening vent for the house (an Eden) any Ideas about a supplier?

Hi digger,

It depends what you want to do.

1. Moss you can shift easy enough, just take the glass out & clean it away if it's really bad or use a thin plant label if it's not
2. The broke glass you can replace easy enough. Greenhouse glass is standard at most glass merchants 2ft x2ft & about 4mm think I think.
3. The slipped panes you just remove & re seat.

The new vent I would try somwhere like Greenhouses direst & see if they do Eden greenhouses & get on off them as I don't think that anyones windo will fit. The auto vent openers are a different kettle of fish as they are universal

Jet wash it or use a washing up brush and soapy water. Taking out the glass to clean it is not a good idea, you will end up with shredded fingers. When I remove glass clips I snip them with wire cuttters then lift out the glass if you try to remove them intact you end up breaking the glass.

Dont any of you have fingernails?? We dismantled our greenhouse from its previous location (its owners house) just using my fingernails to unclip the 'w' clips, and the same tool for putting it back together, no problems at all, or were we just very lucky with being very careful?

Thanks for all your advice. My clips are pressed metal and now I have the hang of it are quite easy to get out and put back.
I have mailed Eden to see about the replacement vent.

Not really I'm a bloke but after the 3rd clip shoots under your nail you use a screwdriver

Eden stuff is relatively expensive - I have an Eden Hidcote but have just fitted two vents from Halls - vent and auto opener for the same price as just the vent from Eden. As long as it fits the 24" width it should be OK.

Mrs D, I now know HOW you have been married so long and never had an argument........ do you only argue by passing notes to each other or on the forum! Makes for a quite life anyway!

I'm a bit worried about the idea of using a pressure washer on a greenhouse, specially if it's been on site for a while. They are a bit fierce, and glass does get brittle with age. I use a plastic plant label to get the moss out - I haven't any fingernails left cos I use them as screwdrivers etc.
