Mini greenhouse

When i came home the other day my mum had brought me a mini present. I had never seen a mini green house before. I have only just started growing veggies so a three teir one is perfect for my small collection. Does anyone else have one of these and how sucessful are they, given that they are PVC not glass?

They are fine, and an ideal way to start off, later, if you decide to move up to a bigger greenhouse you can use the mini greenhouse as staging, and also use it with the cover for extra insulation in the cooler times. I have a mate who had a garden in his last home and has a small patio now, He grows tomatoes in a four tier similar I imagine, to the one you have, and has done for several summers.

it varies ckfe - some things can go straight out
some need more heat

there are some lists on the forum if you search for planting out/sowing times

i have a mini greenhouse and it is great

the worst thing about them is the totally inadequate plastic they use ... I just bought 2 new covers and they ripped within a week.

And they blow over or away in a high wind.

As shelves, they're great, giving you lots of vertical space for trays and pots

I've got three mini 4 tiered greenhouses. At the moment they suit my needs fine. In the summer I take the shelving out and grow three tomatoes in them (one in each). Plus the middle horizontal bars then give me extra support for my toms.

I'm a complete beginner and tried hardening off my seedlings in my 4 tier plastic greenhouse not realising how hot they can get and everything was scorched and yes they do blow away in the wind!

Everything seems to be ok in there at the moment. there is alot of condensation in there. My plants seem to be self watering, which im not sure is a good thing?

You need to open them up in the day to let some cooler air in, get a thermometer and you can keep a better eye on things.

I strongly suggest you put something really heavy on the bottom shelf, such as a bag of compost or even better a grow bag, plant some tomatoes in and take out the upper shelves as the plants grow up. Simples.


My zip up job is now being used as greenhouse staging for the moment.

Yeah i keep opening the door to let the place cool down for the day and then closing it at night to keep my seedlings safe. It seems to be working, ill look into the whole thermomiter thing though, thanks.

I recently bought a thermometer for mine too. Suprising how hot it gets in there. The other day the max temp was 41c!

They're fine, but be careful in the wind as they blow over easily. In the heart of summer they get very hot too. Enjoy the lovely thoughtful pressie!

Thanks. I have tried to weigh mine down quite a bit. It has 5 seedling trays in there, one house plant in a pot, and 3 troughs of radishes so plenty of weight for the wind to contend with.....i hope

mine is against the wall in a sheltered area of the garden - stops it blowing anywhere

Yeah mine is also quite well sheltered upto the garage wall and next to a large tree. Im hoping that will be enough.
