Greenhouse! Cheaper the better?

Just been to pick my free greenhouse up today. It's in pretty good shape, I only lost 3 panes driving home and one was already gone so thats not too bad. What made it nice was the woman who gave it to me had it given to her so it's a major recycle.

I've just been offered half of a huge polytunnel, just the hoops etc, so I'm currently pricing up covers and door-frames You're right, it is sad to see an unused greenhouse mouldering away in someones garden, and very soul-restoring to put it back into proper use! If yours had any feelings, I expect it'd be pretty happy to be sheltering plants again

Having lost a lot of glass last year to wind and vandals I can offer following advice.
Panes from local glaziers usually about �3.00 a pane but shop around some joinery places and like do some very cheap stuff for less.
Have found a lot of places happy to sell the glasshouses but not replacement panes. Don't bother with likes of Homebase, B and Q etc or even most suppliers or nurseries; useless!
I have tried some online for polycarbonate which allows you to fill a slot for 3 panes in one go. Price is about �39 for 3 panels 24" wide and 2m long. Relatively easy to cut with Stanley knife. Good for angled bits but fit them well because if they blow out you will never see them again Dorothy! (well probably in Kansas!)
Too tight and out they pop and likewise if too loose. In difficult weather have been known to actually use some gaffer tape as well as clips.

I have been lucky to acquire a green house for free but I reckon last year it cost me �100 in upkeep. About 20 panes over a two week period and about 10 more in little storms and stone throwing competitions.
Point being if you invest �200-300 on said item keep it at home not on allotment if you wish to avoid some heartaches.

I love Gumtree. On Wednesday I'm off to dismantle and collect a 6'x4' greenhouse for �50.

So much better than paying over �300 for one.

I got my little greenhouse from Freecycle. And I love it! Although already junked up with cat food, empty pots and trays and my assorted tools!

One tip on getting second hand ones is either take a pad and paper or even better a camera if you have to dismantle it! I arrived all excited and got taking it down very quickly and easily.

Although they look simple enough - once your garden is littered with different bits of metal and screws/clips it is very easy for your mind to go blank! There are lots of interlinking lengths and screws

I eventually downloaded some pictures from the internet and guessed! - about 95% right I think

Ive just ordered an 8 x 6 norfolk from grattans catalogue, I would have bought direct from norfolk except it was �15 cheaper from grattans for some reason and I get to pay weekly now as well, which means I have money to buy something else as well.

Picked up my greenhouse today.

God only knows how I'm going to put it back together.

It's in bloody good condition tho. I got a bargain.
