If any of the teachers save tom seeds on kitchen roll, I get them to lay the kitchen roll on top of compost in small trays and then pop some compost over the top and label them. The seeds grow through and it disintegrates before you need to separate them.

I hear you! I tried them a long time ago as well (10+ years). When I google them now, I get several cheery-sized varieties. The ones I had were medium-sized, very green, that would develop the hint of greenish-yellow stripes when they ripened. They were sweet and very, very tasty. Just now I googled them again - and there was just a picture of the ones I remember (finally!) but nothing else but several cherry tomatoes with that name.
If you have found them, please post....

They are still in the Virtual Seed Parcel - Virtual Seed Parcel

If you have something to swap it with, send Veggie Chicken a message and she will tell you how to do about getting them.

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
