Sorry Hazel if I'd seen this I could have given you one ... seed that is I've grown it for a few years now. If you've got a greenhouse plant some earl and grow in 6 or 7" pots the scent will know you backwards when you go in in the morning to water them !!!

In the Victorian Kitchen Garden, Harry Dodson mentioned a yellow podded Broady as well but I think they are extinct now as I've not been able to track them down.

I'm glad they arrived. I'm the 'lady' from Brown Envelope Seeds I found the Grapevine while vainly googling myself. I'm not very versed in blogging and have failed to find the introductions forum that it was suggested I introduce myself in. Although I sell seeds I'm also interested in swapping. I'm particularly interested in finding good hardy varieties that work well in our damp not too sunny island.

Hi Mads, welcome to the 'Vine There's quite a bit of swapping goes on here, and quite a few people (including myself) joined the Heritage Seed Library this year, so probably be some interesting 'home-grown' swaps next year!

They smell lovely, as well as being quite a talking point. Bonus - the seeds I saved from last year have just germinated, yipee!

Hope you enjoy your plants Hazel, like you, I grew mine in the garden to avoid cross pollination, but this year they will go on the allotment as I'm growing another Heritage Seed Library variety, Londonderry at home. Providing the seeds have remained true, I should have the remainder of seed to share with other grapes next year.

Hiya Mads - and welcome to the Vine!

Have planted out the crimson flowered broadies just a week ago at the Hill - can't tell you how pleased I am with them.

Oh - another bonus was that there were 33 seeds in the pack (and they said average 27) and all but 3 germinated.

Ho ... I was after some last year... missed the opportunity to get some from the HSL. This year I got some from Plants of distinction with the intention of growing for seed only.

Good job I decided to order and not wait for this years HSL as it appears they dont have any.
Will hopfully have lots of seed this time next year.

Quick update... Mine are doing well. Smaller than i expected..

Mine are flowering well ~ they look just like yours. They never get higher than my knees though.

Daughter gave me some - they're flowering really well, but are only about a foot high. You're right they're beautiful to look at - hope they taste as good as they look.

I was sent some by Muckdiva. Mine are just coming into flower - a bit behind yours. They are in the flower border as I don't want them to cross with my other broadies - want to save the seed for next year.
