  • When to sow chive seed?

ive collected a load of chive seeds from a few flowers, would it be okay to sow now or do i need to wait till spring time? i woulda thought i the seeds ready now it would be okay to sow, but i looked on the back of a seed packet in b&q and it says sow in march and april

I would think you could sow them whenever. If you left them to self seed they'd be in the soil by now. You probably won't get much of a crop until next year though.

      My plants self-seed.
The seedlings don't appear until the early spring

If you sow them now, you might get small tufty seedlings this year but next year they will bulk up a bit.

Either pop some in modules [seed head by seed head] or bury a seed head or two where you want them next year. Then leave them to it.

I've had a healthy clump of chives for years, until I moved it last year and now it's disappeared, must have been the wrong time. Sowed some seed yesterday.
