My efforts are not now doing that well. The tallest one I interfered with in that I helped it release a new leaf. It hasn't thanked me. The other two are looking a bit sad. The leaves are beginning to dry and go brown. They are all fed and watered and generally cared for but I think they are putting me to the test.

Go on Bren have a furtleOriginally posted by Brengirl View PostIt all went great guns to start with but growth is beginning to fizzle out and the plants look poorly. I am considering them out of the compost to see what going on underneath.
It is only an experiment after all.

Mine was going well, got to about 10" and the leaves were beginning to unfurl, then reaching over it I managed to knock about an inch off the top of the plant. The 'inner' bit is growing but instead of being green it's yellow and sickly. The rest of the stem still looks OK so I'll leave it for a while to see if it recovers and starts growing again.

Thanks to Jeanie, I have a budding ginger on the go. It's still sitting in water (do I have to wait til a leaf pops out before potting up in soil?). So I get to join in!Singleton Allotments Society

That's just how I feel. My babies sprouted, grew happilly to 10" and then became brown and dried. The roots still look healthy. Reading the splurge it says they do not like sunlight (not that they have had much of that!) so I have downgraded them to floor level.

I wonder if that's why mine has stopped growing. Think I'll do the same.Originally posted by Brengirl View Post

Sonata I've had another piece (where have they all come from, I ask myself) soaking in water since I posted the chappie to you. The round bump has gone pointy. I will be planting him soon. In the meantime I shall be having stern words with the piece I planted months ago - which had an inch long green shoot when I planted it - but has been languishing with the shoot staying at around 4 inches for a good few weeks. I shall be 'furtling' as we say round here - and probably potting them on both together.Originally posted by Sonata View PostThanks to Jeanie, I have a budding ginger on the go. Shirl - is this the secret to your success? Should I pop my sulky plant into the airing cupboard?Originally posted by Brengirl View PostReading the splurge it says they do not like sunlight (not that they have had much of that!) so I have downgraded them to floor level.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I find keeping the compst fairly dry seems to be what the plant prefers.Originally posted by wheatleys wheels View Postalso I only have multipurpose compost will this do as a planting medium for ginger?Happy Gardening,
