  • Do you recognize this herb?

    Hello.

My sister bought this as a herb. She knows very little about gardening and lost the label and doesn't remember what it was. Do you recognize it?

    Thanks for any help.

I thought it looked like Mint too - rub a leaf and smell it Meschuee? Mint is quite an easy smell to recognise

Hello and thanks. Yes, it does look like a mint but I think that's the one she would recognize and not buy. I did ask her to crush a leaf and smell it and will get on to her again to do that.

I'll be back if she lets me know.

        Bye

If it doesn't smell like mint try lemon balm. It looks like a hairy mint.

You don't think it could be Snadger's fave - bergamot - monarda didyma? Fabulous flowers to come if it is!

Yup - definitely Bergamot - lovely stuff.

Smells just like Earl Grey tea - because it is used to flavour Earl Grey tea.

Yep, I reckon so as well Flum! If the leaves smell 'orangy' it's a cert!

Thanks, everyone. Sorry you're having trouble with the site, terrier.

My sister bought three herbs, one was bergamot (she wants to put the flowers in drinks) and this is different to what she got as bergamot. I've asked her to crush a leaf and smell it and am waiting for an answer.

It looks exactly like this photo of bergamot: BERGAMOT, LEMON (Monarda citriodora) Herb seed for Sale.

                      perhaps your sister's bergamot, isn't?

No trouble here. But I use Firefox not IE. Which version do you use Terrier? IE 8?

Are you sure you don't mean Borage for the flowers in drinks?

Whoops, yes, I do mean borage. Yes, it looks as though it's bergamot. Nice to see it in flower.

Thanks, everyone. I'll let her know.
