  • New to herbs

Hi All, I am brand new to growing herbs and would like to start! Are most herbs fine to grow indoors and how much care do they need? Are there any I should be more careful with? Thank you!

    Indoors?
do you mean on a sunny windowsill? parsley, chives, basil should do OK.
Larger herbs like sage, rosemary etc will need to be outside.

i'm venturing back into herbs for the first time in ages
i've grown mainly mint, rosemary, chives and basil in the past
never had much luck with basil indoors for some reason - probably not the right conditions

i do have a herb question though - what on earth do i do with 1500 seeds when i receive them? why are herbs sold in such high seed quantities?
they can't store much more than 6 months can they?

        Hi Iamhuman

Yes, they do store. Some seeds store for years.

You can also sow successionally for a year round supply...so 1500 should last quite a while.

          Thanks for that Zazen.
I thought most seeds didn't do that well after being stored, even in airtight tins. I've heard of herbs going longer, but wasn't sure.
So I think i'll stick with Dobies Mint - 95p for 1500 seeds, as opposed to MoreVeg 50p for 50 seeds.
I am going to get some of the more peculiar varieties from MoreVeg.
