  • Best herbs that will benefit other plants?

    Hi there,

I'm sure that this has probably been asked before but I'll ask again!

Which herbs do you grow for the benefits they will have as companions to other plants in your garden?

I am new to growing veg (2nd year) and any advice re herb companions would be much appreciated. I am growing all sorts of different fruit and veg so all reccomendations are most welcome.

    Thank you and stay safe.

    Happy growing people.

I grow sage, hyssop, dill & corridor with my brassicas.
    Basil with tomato.
    Chives with carrots.
Mint goes with lots of things, can’t remember what right now. But best to grow it in pots next to the companion plant as it’s a thug and will take over.
There’s lots of others but can’t remember them now.
I’m sure someone else will be along with more suggestions soon.

      Hi
Basil - also lettuce, aubergine, pepper
Coriander -with anything - repels Aphids, Spider Mites, Potato Beetles
Thyme, marjorum, oregano - eggplant, salad burnet, potatoes and strawberry can also use a tea to repel cabbage whitefly
Rosemary - cabbage, beans, carrots, sage. It deters cabbage fly, carrot fly, bean beetles
Chervil - lettuce, radish, will improve flavour of broccoli
Golden chamomile - repels cucumber fly
Lemon balm - all, repels pests

      Hope that helps

Lemon balm self seeded underneath a whitecurrant in my garden. I had a huge problem with gooseberry sawfly that now seems much reduced. I can't be 100% sure it's down to the lemon balm but it's staying there anyway.
