  • Name that flower...

Anyone have an idea as to what this is...

This is the first year it has been in our garden, we didn't plant it and have no idea what it is. The bees seem to love it though.

    Looks like a Euphorbia/Spurge.

^^^ yes, I love them too but be very careful with letting it go to seed. It really is a very invasive weed. It does set seed very well.

Definitely a euphorbia. Be careful when handling it, as the sap is irritating, or worse, can burn the skin or eyes. To quote a Telegraph gardening article "Some plants produce fluid that causes a burning sensation and blistering, which can also irritate the eyes.

"Wherever the plant brushes the skin, a rash of red weals develops in an allergic response," says Dr Jones.

"A&E staff treat this as they would a burn, by cleaning the skin, applying some anti-inflammatory cream and bandaging it up."

That said, I love euphorbias, and there are some great ones for the garden, with pretty well one for every situation. Just take sensible care when handling them and you'll be fine.
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.
