Bat plant

So I have wanted to try and grow this plant for a year and just ordered some seeds for Tacca Integrifolia which is the cream and purple one. My husband was a bit too freaked out by the black one!
Anyway looking forward to them arriving and sowing some.
Anyone grown these before with any advice to offer that�s might not be mentioned on the internet.

How very exciting. I love bat plants ( the black one ). I've been very tempted to try growing one from seed. The only thing stopping me is no where to keep it happy over winter. I did have one a long time ago. Fully grown from a garden centre. It was to big to move house with. So it was rehomed.

Now I'm tempted to order seeds and join you in your bat plant growing .

So, just thought I’d update. I planted the seed in 11th April and so far nothing.
I’m thinking of sowing another one but in a different soil type. The type I planted the original 4 in John inner potting soil.
Does anyone have any idea as to what it does best in. The internet says well drained soil/ compost so maybe the soil alone is too heavy? I have ericacious compost, normal compost

Has it germinated yet Carly ? They can take months and require bottom heat or an airing cupboard or somewhere warm in your home that is not in direct sunlight. keep the compost moist but not soaking i.e.: wet it and then cling film the pot to keep it moist, and check once a week. At this stage I wouldn't worry to much about the type of compost so much as having to patience to wait for them to germinate.

I managed to germinate a few approx 20yrs ago as I thought they were utterly fascinating sadly I did't have the time to care for it's future growth and they eventually died. Took a while though!

Buying already dried seed from a plant that is not native to the UK always requires patience and time.

Most folk who grow them divide the rhizome or do root cuttings but until we have one! we can't do that.

Where did you get your seed as I'm going to try and grow one with you although my other half is no longer freaked out or perplexed as to what I might grow next he's used to it
