  • Honeysuckle (pound shop)

I bought a bare root of Honeysuckle from a pound shop. It has signs of sprouting, it has a few wee tiny green buds. I soaked it on water for a while and then I transplanted it on a large pot inside an unheated greenhouse. It has been snowing on and off for the past two-three weeks and today we have 8*C / 1C*. I'm not sure if it's too cold. Should I bring it indoors at nights?

I want to buy more tomorrow, roses too, but in the past I had bought different bare roots from a pound shop with little success. How do I know if bulbs and bare roots are still alive, and I'm not buying just sticks? Thank you!

Honeysuckle should be fine in the GH until the weather improves.
Bulbs should be firm, not soft and squidgy or mouldy.
With bare roots, look for signs of growth, leaf buds and, if you can, gently scrape the bark with your fingernail. A healthy stem will look green beneath the bark, not brown and dead.
