I grew a banana plant many moons ago, from seed. A very clumsy friend came to visit. Next day my 3" banana plant was snapped .

I feel your pain SP...Ive had 16 or more years of rugby/footballs snapping off my plants ...this morning the pup was doing mad circles around the garden soaking wet after taking a dip in my pond and stealing my water iris . Thankfully I saw the funny side

I have a patch in my border where nothing grows because the dog sleeps there, squashing anything I plant....

It is but the sad thing might be that Bananas die after they fruit so you may have to buy yourself a new one

I don't think the whole plant dies, the stem that bears fruit dies - not that I have a banana plant but I read that each "pseudo stem" needs to be cut to ground after fruiting and more stems should sprout.

The banana plant grows to a height of about six feet or more. After the green fruit has been harvested the main stem is cut down to the ground and one of the several basal suckers is saved as the following season's new plant.
