As long as you make sure they are properly hardened off then they will be fine. I sowed mine in autumn and they spent the entire winter out on our garden table until I planted them out in March. They are tough!
But previous years they've spent the winter in the cold greenhouse, then they sulked when I put them out and the cold wind got to them. They recovered but would have been better if I'd acclimatised them properly.

As I said, mine didn't like the move from garden (surrounded by hedges, so sheltered) to allotment (very exposed) even though I put the polysheet around them. I hope they recover.Originally posted by Martin H View PostAs long as you make sure they are properly hardened off then they will be fine. They probably will. When it happened to me, the existing leaves went white and papery but fresh new sideshoots soon appeared. As long as they had a decent root system!Originally posted by Thelma Sanders View PostAs I said, mine didn't like the move from garden (surrounded by hedges, so sheltered) to allotment (very exposed) even though I put the polysheet around them. Mine are sown in a large pot in Autumn & left to get on with it. They are coming through nicely.sigpicGorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,

Ummm I got a shed load of sweet pea seeds earlier this year, from the gardening press exhibition looks like I better get on and sow them.

I don't plant them out until they are reaching out for support with their tendrils.Originally posted by cpm82 View PostAt what stage is it advisable to plant out sweetpea seedlings? How large should they be for instance?

It's getting a bit late to get good flowers this year. Personally I would wait and sow them in October. Or January to early March.Originally posted by Cadalot View PostUmmm I got a shed load of sweet pea seeds earlier this year, from the gardening press exhibition looks like I better get on and sow them.

I sowed some in my shed and some direct under plastic bottle cloches, have removed the cloches now and they're maybe 2 inches high. The indoor ones I transplanted but they're still under a cloche.. I'll whip it off if this sunshine continues! They're supposedly very highly fragrances so I hope they survive. May have planted too many...
