Despite the hammering from all the recent deluges of rain my newly planted poppies have taken, this little beauty opened this morning...!!!

Just leave it to dry on the plant and when it starts to get crispy put a paper bag over it ( you can bend the poppy head over to make it easier)
If you leave it too long, there will be little holes appearing just around the edge of the umbrella shaped lid...and the seeds will get dispersed .
Just keep an eye on it at first...you'll get a good idea as it dries

Am I right in thinking that poppies don't stay in bloom for very long?
You can tell I know zilch about flowers ........!!!!!

Susie I entirely missed my poppies whilst on holiday last year!
They're dead easy to save seed from - just leave them to it and then pick off the dried seed heads later in the year. You get soooo many seeds from poppies!Comment

Beautiful, Susie. I love poppies. No they don't last too long but the bees were all over mine last year.LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.Comment

Each poppy flower will give you hundreds of seeds. The seed capsules couldn't have been designed better for spreading the seeds - you don't even have to split them open. There's the bulbous capsule with loads of seeds in and at the top is a crown with holes in it - just turn it upside down and shake it for the seeds to come out and scatter.
