  • is it too early?

thanks guys, just thinking to myself is it too early to be putting in bedding plants? we have had a few frosty mornings up here in Aberdeen. not sure how hardie pansys and marigold plants are.

Pansies survive here - frosts now are not all day long.
Marigolds? never.. They'll die at worst, setback at best.

And before you plant out, leave trays outside a week at least to harden off...(NOT marigolds as they will die if frosted badly).

Marigolds are for short sleeve weather.

Agree with above post, except to say I'm assuming you have African or French marigolds which is what the garden centres tend to sell. Pot marigolds (calendula) however are hardy and can be grown from seed now.

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
