New beds, couch grass

Hi guys I have very kindly been given a load of plants by my lovely neighbour (need ID but haven't taken pics yet). I potted them up about 4 weeks ago. The problem is that there is a lot of couch grass in with the soil the plants are in. I don't want to introduce this into my new raised beds, how do I get rid of it before I plant them out? Thanks

You'll have to wash the roots to look to see there is any couch.

Thanks I was afraid that would be the way. When I replant them should I do it back into pots or straight In to the ground?

Depends on what they are and if they're big enough to plant out yet.

Couch is easy to spot and easy to pull out: it's not a big job, but well worth doing properly, as any tiny shred of root will turn into a new tussock of couch grass

Are you sure its Couch grass Bal? Nasty little white spears at the runner ends.

I would be cautious about possibly introducing couch grass if you don't already have it. Its manageable but is a bit of a pain.

Hi Greenleaves yes I managed to pull out one bit, it had a reddish base with white roots coming off the base.

I have also faced this problem. Couch grass is such a pain. I now use the gel weedkiller and apply to offending weed leaves. Precious plant is not affected and cg slowly dies.
