  • Tulip Seeds have Germinated. Now what?

I remembered to collect tulip seeds in 2011 and then in 2012 I remembered to sow them! All I did was scatter them on the surface of some home made compost, shoved them on some out door shelving and ignored them. They might have been watered when it was very dry.

Yesterday (amongst the weeds) I found a little forest of tulip seedlings. What next?

I'm inclined to leave them to get on with as they have managed so far on their own.

Its due to turn bitter cold here this week....

I would move them to a sunny spot and give them some space. Six years is the shortest time I have had tulip flowers from seed. I planted some miniature narcissi seed thirteen years ago and have hundreds of bulbs but very few (less than twenty) have flowered.

I wouldn't worry about the cold - tulips like cold winters and sunny summers, as we used to have. I would move them in spring.
