  • dead fucshias?

I planted some dwarf hardy fucshias in my flowerbeds towards the end of summer but they dont look very healthy at all. The leaves have gone a sickly green/yellow colour and are falling off and they look like they are dying.
Do hardy fucshias die back?? and do you think if I leave them they might pick up next year (or will I have to buy more!).
The bed they were in should of been perfect for them having partial shade and not being too wet or dry.....normally! (I cant help wondering if the horrendous weather this year has had something to do with it!).

Thats normal........in the spring you'll see new growth at the bottom then cut the old stuff off . You keep the old on to help protect over the winter.

and don't panic if they're late putting out new growth - mine were very late coming back this year.

My hardy fuscias die back to nothing each year and in the spring come back from the base and we can go as low as -20C. When I lived in Devon the old branches put on new growth. I wouldn't worry they should be fine. It may help to protect the roots with straw or old leaves.

          phew! thanks..
I think it was the fact they are supposed to be hardy that threw me....I thought that meant they stayed all leafy throughout the winter. Hopefully they will come back fine, it doesnt usually get really cold in the SE.

Hardy doesn't mean evergreen, just that they should survive the winter and start growing again in spring.

I have some lovely baby fuscia which were flowering until about a month ago- all leaves and flowers have now dropped, but I'm pretty sure they'll be back in the Spring

It's normal winter weather isn't it?

Mind you, we get the same conditions in July, don't we?

Actually, I think it's warmer now than it was in July.

I meant this year in general. If you mean that this entire year was normal then Im going to give up and just patio over the whole garden!!
