I've had one for about twenty years. I pop it outside in its pot for the summer then bring it in again in Autumn. It blooms reliably each Winter with minimum fuss.

In the summer my plant sitter overwatered one of my Christmas cacti and rotted off all the roots. I wondered why it looked shrivelled and was surprised to find it sitting in a puddle. I removed the rotted bits up to the first sound leaf joint, and managed to re-root them all and they are flowering now. It was a Homebase rescue mission too. Must be determined!
I have pale pearl pink, deep pink and red varieties, all in flower at the moment on my kitchen windowsill.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
        Now a little Shrinking Violet.

The one that bloomed the best so far, is beautiful and pink. It is called Bruce.

Three months after the first bloom, my cactus has started flowering again, and it's neighbour is getting small flower buds too. The leaves look fine, so I don't think they're stressed or anything, but I wasn't expecting a second round of flowers quite so soon (not that I'm complaining!)
