  • Evergreen Clematis

    Hi,
Can anyone give me any advice on these plants please? We moved here just over five years ago and planted one against a fence which has trellis at the top, to give us some screening. It faces SSE. However it never took and died.
My neighbour has one, huge, and I'd like to root a cutting from it. How would I go about doing that and is the situation I described a good position for one to grow in?
Thanks for any good advice you can give me.

Do you mean Clematis Armandii? If so, it likes a sunny position. You could try cuttings now, but I think you would be better off layering a stem from the mother plant in autumn. Just lay a stem down into the ground and hold it down with a stone, leaving the tip to continue growing. It should root in a few months and be ready to cut off and re-plant.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
