Not exactly a flower, but a tree........

OH fancies a weeping willow in the corner of our new garden. Trouble is, I hate those little dwarf tpes which grow maybe 8 foot high and look so 'false'. and a full size weeping willow will take too long to grow and cast too much shade.
What I need is an intermediate weeping willow, maybe attaining 20 foot high and quick growing!

Any ideas?

What about a Weeping Birch? We have one in the back garden and it's lovely, has got to over 10ft in 10 years?

Or a weeping hazel tree - corylus pendula - small tree and the bonus of providing hazel nuts too! Delicious.

I'd go with Birch too. A willow will send out enormously long roots, and, unless your garden is very long, the roots will reach, and probably undermine, your foundations!

Nope!

The tree will be planted in the corner of the garden well away from any buildings or drains. After watching 'Help, my house is falling down around me' last night, I wouldn't have it any other way!

I've got a twisted hazel in a big pot, it's just the right size for our little garden (2m). A friend has the same thing planted in the ground, and it's bigger than his house

A full sized weeping willow will find your drains - and b*gger them up. We had one at the corner of the school I worked at - and it cobbled up the kitchen drains - probably about that distance away. They came to unblock them and found a huge mass of roots in the drain. Cleared it away and the same happened a couple of years later. The tree had to go.
I'd definitely go for a weeping something-else.

How about a Golden Weeping Willow? It says it grows to about 8m high, 7m wide after 20 years but not sure if that means it would grow too slowly for you?

Hmmmmm. Like it! Don't expect 'instant' but 20 years will take me past my '3 score years and 10'.
