Re-potting miniature roses

Have I done the right thing?

I bought a pot of growing miniature roses at valentines. Megan loved them. Winner.

Now, today I thought I'd re-pot them and keep the magic going.

I bought some compost and mixed it with mud from out-side and put the lot in a huge pot.

Is this OK? wrong? what else can I do?

If it dies then it was Wrong I would have thought it would be OK. Is it in the house I wonder? If so it may be a bit too warm in there for it & it will drop it's leaves. If you can put it somewhere cool but bright - out of direct sunlight & draughts.

Wouldn't ever mix compost with mud!! Also, when re-potting the usual advice is to go one pot size bigger. Sorry to sound so negative, but if you re-pot into a much bigger pot (especially with "mud") the roots can't cope and get waterlogged. Probably would have been better to put into open ground (roses are hardy), or just re-pot into a pot one size larger using proprietary potting compost.

It depends on how abig a pot you've put it in really. You could leave it as it is but just go easy on the watering if it's always wet it will rot the roots. so let it dry out before giving it any more water.

You could stand it on a dish with some coarse gravel in it, that way you'll have humidity around the leaves but it will allow the compost to drain off.

Probably. The two things that plants that are hardy hate is central heating & draughts. The humididty arounf the plant fro the dish of wet gravel will conteract the central heating, you've just got to keep it out of draughts now

I put my pot roses (Tesco reduced ones) on the allotment, they like it :-). I also cut branches off and stick in the ground to grow new rose bushes!

wow, i was just thinking of throwing out my little potted roses. i got them at valentines and have kept them in the bathroom, thinking they dont like the warmth. however it seems if they don't like the draughts then that might be why they are a bit the worse for wear. maybe i'll put them in the garden and see what happens...i trully thought these plants were just temporary arrangements!?!?!?
