What flower seeds can I sow now?

I am giving up part of my veg plot so have some bare earth that I want to do something with before it completely gets overtaken by bindweed. I would like to sow some flower seeds now but don't know what? Are there any that will flower before winter? Are there any I can sow now that will survive winter and grow in spring? I am in central France and the winters can be harsh, certainly below zero temps. Other consideration is the blasted bindweed . When (not if) it takes over the soil will the flowers have a chance?

Loads of annuals can be sown in the autumn methinks. Check the seed packets for sowing dates.

Sadly no. You can sow green manures though
