Can anyone tell me what this is please?
I got it from a school fete several years ago and never found out what it was. It dies back every winter and comes forth again every spring/summer. I originally planted it in the back garden. It gets very wet there. I dug it out and replanted in the front garden where it is quite dry and it does equally well there. The one in the back that I thought I had dug out came back again just as vigorously as it had grown before. I think it is indestructible!

    Hi Weekendwellies -

I'm only a newbie so someone more experienced may have a better answer - but I think it's yellow "Loosestrife" - as I have some on the corner of my veggie patch. Grows and spreads in clumps and flowers along a tall spike. Dont know its proper name Im afraid. As you say it seems impossible to kill off!

I quite like it. Sometimes indestructible is good - especially for me

I cut mine back close to the ground once it goes crispy and starts dying off - and it comes back every year just as strong. We have a huge clump of it opposite the courgettes and it attracts loads of bees so I guess it must be good for encouraging pollination. Pretty too!

I love the stuff. I bung big handfuls of it in vases - you can 'go big' with a loosetrife arrangement.

There is a wild form which I think is more elegant. Here it is, in our wild area, with Purple Loosetrife behind it.

I have some of this as a 'volunteer' in my garden - nice to have a name for it
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

It's a volunteer in our garden too! Came under the fence, we've got a lovely big clump now. Can I split it easily to spread it around the garden? If it's growing for free it can be any colour it likes here!

I don't mind either. But I hate them together. It reminds me of Battenburg cake. The only cake I don't like!
