I was never sure where to nick them, HW - and I have seen someone recommending that too but I'm not sure where I saw it. Soaking is simpler!Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment

I soaked mine before I sowed them, did them about a week ago, left them outside and my seedllings are now about 1cm tall. Best get the garage painted now so I can put their trellis up!

a quick way to kick 'em off is to put them into a plastic money bag with moist compost, pop 'em into your airing cupboard - they'll be sending out their darling little white bits before you've made the toastaka

That's it - 3 packs of seeds now in the airing cupboard in bags of moist compost - hope it works fast as I have a spot of catching up to do, like Fi!Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment

I don't soak or nick and seem to get good germination. Filled 10 root trainers back in Feb and shoved 2 seeds in each. Now have 20 lovely healthy bushy plants which have benefited from a bit of pinching out
If they're as pretty as last year then they'll look lovely with my beans
