Its a Rose of Sharon. My neighbour gives hers a really hard haircut once its finished flowering (right into the old wood) and it bounces back almost immediately. Hers is about 5ft tall after its haircut, 6-7ft tall at this time of year.Last edited by Pumpkin Becki; 30-06-2009, 11:47 AM.

I agree - it looks like Hypericum 'Hidcote' in my plant book. The height and spread is given as 3ft (though I've noticed these sometimes vary between different books).Originally posted by digthatchick View PostI don't think it is a Rose of Sharon (Hypericum calycinum) I am sure it is Hypericum "Hidcote". Same family but centres are quite different. There are many pictures on Google, although many are not correct.

I've always called all the big ones Rose of Sharon. My mum asked me the same question yesterday when we saw one in a garden in the village.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
