    Anyone growing sunflowers?
What are your favourites to grow?

We grow every year but from saved seed and now have no idea what’s coming up…doesn’t help not knowing how tall they will be either
My favourites are always the yellow/ orange/ chocolate ones….and the small multiheaded ones.
No idea of the names. Not even sure if they cross pollinate…cor- can you imagine being the one to produce a multiheaded , multicoloured variety? Either dwarf or even giant! No doubt someone already has!

What are you thinking of growing?

In the past we've grown 'Velvet Queen' & they've done well in a patch of the plot with poor soil & a slug problem - although the latter has been more of an issue some years than others. They go nice & tall (at least 6 ft I reckon) & are a deep burnt orange/red colour, black in the centre, more than one bloom per plant.

Last year I planted an Autumn Raspberry in their usual spot so I really must try to find a spot for Sunflowers again this year.

I am still working my through all my open packets of seeds, last year I grew Harlequin, little leo, sunburst and valentine. I will grow all of those again to use them up and maybe some others. I quite like to grow shorter and multi stem flowers.

They're good JJ I've done them too before.

Peanut I've done little dorrit for shorter ones in the past.

Agree about shorter ones and more stems too.

I really don't know which soil type is meant to be best for them, mine is pretty good being in The Fens and they've done ok, despite me, just leaving them to get on with it
