  • Leggie Lavender

    Hi Everyone.

Whenever i grow Lavender its ends up leggy

I put them in well drained soil, not to much water in a sunny area, I don't know why but they always end up leggy.

I was looking at them and thought, they have a kind of bonsy look to them. I put them in small pots, tired them down to grow sideways and not up, cut a few bits here and there. I am looking to interwind/twist the branches together at some stage to have the bonsy look.

What do you think of them so far?

I've no wisdom re. leggy lavender but I think your bonsai idea is inspired

Football, I grow lavender and the only way to stop it going leggy is to prune it hard after flowering.
I don't think it will be suitable for bonsai but you can give it a try.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

          bramble, thanks for replying.

I have found over the years some plants just don't seem to like my style of gardening. So i tend not to grow them, seems cruel to take a happy plant and put it somewhere i know it wont be happy.

I know a lavender can never be a true bonsai. It was just me doing some lateral thinking of how to put two leggy lavender to use.

Always good to be a lateral thinker rootball…mentally and practically!

I’d love to see the end result please- once you have ‘ twisted’ them together .

When I first read your thread title I was thinking that my lavender flowers are incredibly long too this year - way longer than I’ve ever seen before.
But you are talking about the stems…so that’s completely different, but very interesting to see how you are making the most of the situation. Being in pots of course makes things more flexible for you.

Agree, its amazing what comes up with a bit of lateral thinking.

I'm thinking i will try to twist them after the hot spell we are having at the moment is over. Not really sure when the best time to do it would be to be honest. When done I will share the result here, fingers crossed it works
