  • Lavender problem

2 lavenders bought last week from the herb farm £10 each!! Got home noticed some of the stems rotting and dropping. Removed those affected, planted with all due care, today noted more stems rotti g and drooping. Any advice please. Attaching

What did the roots look like when you planted them out? Did they look like a single plant or lots of cuttings rooted side by side?

It does seem strange…given the supplier should be ‘experts’
It looks like there have been several stems cut back already…were those all the ones you cut back?
TBH…if I’d paid that much I wouldn’t be happy with those plants and would contact the suppliers and send those photos. Mainly to ask for them to be replaced, but also..out of interest) what could have caused it.

As Snoop suggests…and also , what state were the roots in when you planted them out?…lots of white roots?

The roots were good - just 1 plant in the pot

Yes I trimmed off the stems before I planted them out. I have emailed the supplier (vitacress) and also the herb farm in sonning common where I bought them, as yet no reply. I too am not happy to have paid so much - also that I didn't notice those drooping stems but I was in a hurry as I had my dogs in the car and didn't want to leave them on a sunny morning, so I was literally in and out.

I spoke to the manager at the herb farm and he didn't know what was the cause etc. he also checked his stock and found he had the same problem. He has offered to refund me
However having made some effort to plant them and the actual plant looks healthy I have trimmed both plants down and will see if they do ok. If not I'll return them.
Attaching photos of the trim and the plants. The bricks are just there because I have a hen who keeps getting in the garden and is a demon scratcher!

Worth contacting him then….pity he didn’t offer you something extra though for your inconvenience

You did him a favour, alerting him to the problem.

How about asking not for a refund but for two plants? That would seem fair to both of you.

My new French lavender is already going downhill in the centre despite NOT overwatering and potted in sandy, perlite compost

Marb, I don't see anything wrong with your plant...IT looks quite healthy to me.
I grow lavender in pots but never water it as it lakes dry conditions.

It was wilting so I had to give it water but I take your point in general.
