Shrub ID Please

These were sent to me from T&M as bare root saplings. They were leafless when they arrived in March. They should have been Hazel but clearly aren't.
The only thing that they slightly resemble on the T&M website bare root hedging section is golden privet, but that is evergreen. However, on closer reading, it does say that in severe cold they can drop their leaves. I guess it could be that but they are golden not variegated and the leaves look a different shape to me.

Google lens is rubbish and says its Lonicera, which it isn't.
Does anyone have any ideas as to these mystery shrubs ID?

peanut I’ll move this thread over to the flower section…(it’s that or veggie, and it’s clearly not a veggie! )…it may flower though, being a shrub? That would help with an ID.

I had absolutely no idea so had a quick look at the bareroot hedging available on the T&M site for a clue. The only similar one I could see was the golden privet too. I'm sure someone with much better knowledge will come along soon - I'm intrigued to find out what you've got - they certainly don't look like the common Hazel leaves I'm familiar with [insert head-scratching smiley here]

I have crushed and sniffed and can only get faint green grassy scent at best. Maybe they're too young to have a privet scent yet? What kind of smell is it?

Hard to describe but quite pungent, very similar to the smell of privet flowers if you've ever smelled them.
i suppose a bit like strong hay, so maybe if you're getting a grassy scent it is privet.

Thanks mothhawk looks like it probably is some kind of privet then, not what I wanted for my wildlife friendly hedge!
T&M are really quite rubbish sometimes.

I'd contact them & let them know - i don't know how their t&cs work but surely you should have some recompense?

I shall do, they are quite good at puting things right. Just a shame that they get things wrong so often.

Refund from T&M but no suggestion as to what it might be. Also got a refund for the dead blackthorns they sent too. So they came good in the end but is it really expecting too much for them to get things right first time round...
