You could well be right Annie8. Will try again next season. I have now turned my attention to cultivating cleome as I acquired some seedlings and have never grown before.
My cosmos and nicotiana in modules are bursting to be planted out but I am seaweed feeding them and resisting for another week.
Have sown nasturtium to supplement the self seeding ones. Not sure why but they self seed prolifically on the allotment but not at home.
