I grew them last year for the first time, and they were definitely later summer flowers. I thought they were lovely, but didn't get round to sowing any this year. Wish I had - as we're now getting a good warm summer, and I think they'd do really well. Such a pity we can't know in advance what kind of summer we will be getting...... (up here anyway!)

      • The dahlias are up and running now on the front edge of my allotment.
It is there third year and they have got smaller each year to maybe lift them this winter.
I was told a couple of years ago what the plant with pea tendril leaves is but I have forgotten.

        • Lovely colours!

I think the tendril one is nigella? Nice to see it in white.

              • Two from me today. Squash flowers stuffed and eaten for lunch. Sunflowers up the valley from us. First time ever and perhaps experimental to see how they'd do. Looks like a big success. I've got some spare land I could do the same with even if all I do is have them for pollinators and birds. Click image for larger version

                  • First zinnia. Very pretty and has a strange texture to it.

It has turned out to be an ornamental globe thistle. There is no blue leaves.
Only the flowers went blue and they took a long tome to come out for the bees.

                              • My first outdoor hyacinth has finally started opening.
One of them got blown over by the wind last year but this year they have remembered and are carrying there flowers on shorter stouter stems.
