  • Delphiniums from seed

My mum gave me a load of seed that she saved from some delphiniums and I would love to grow them as I think they are gorgeous flowers.
Do they need any special conditions? Never grown them before but am trying to create cottage style garden out the front of my house.
    Thanks in anticipation..

I grew them from seeds long time ago. Can't remember whether they were easy or difficult to germinate. But you should start them off in pots from what I remember the slugs constantly finished them off if they were young tender seedlings or protect them with slug pellets, even then there's no guarantee. In the end I gave up, the slugs just love them immensely .

i agree they are probably my favourite flower. they do take from seed but like veg4681 said are a slugs favourite too. so make sure they are very healthy and fairly large to give them a headstart. and use loads of different slug repeleents -salt when dry, grapefruits, eggshell, beer, etc
