  • soil for flower raised bed

i am constructing 2 raised beds for flowers. they are going to be situated on tarmac so ive put down some plastic made a few drainage holes and put a layer of hardcore down to aid drainage. they will be getting morning summer sun shine. what type of soil does anyone suggest. multipurpose compost, sand top soil organic matter i really have no clue about soi for flowers.

A local soil supplier does a top soil and compost mix which is what landscapers use

          Hi Hawthorns,

Not really. you need something a bit more substantial in a raised bed as once it dries it will be a swine to re-wet.

Why are you putting plastic down if it's on tarmac? you'd do better to dig out the tarmac IMHO.

I'd go for topsoil and mix in some Pelleted chicken poo or some rotted Muck (bagged is OK) - you could mix the coir in with it if you want
