VC is right as usual, definitely honeysuckle - only really possible to guess the variety once the flowers open - Belgica possibly.

I agree looks like a honeysuckle or as my old dad used call it when growing wild in the ditches - wild woodbine

Definitely honeysuckle I have a few in my little garden. They smell heavenly in the evening, their scent is the strongest then. Just divine

Thanks all, it wasn't planted by us and was there when we bought the place, and wasn't sure whether it was worth keeping or not. Knowing it is a honeysuckle I shall keep it

I think it's one of the best scents ever, maybe even more so because it's strongest in the evenings when it's quiet and tranquil outside.

The only other scent that I think gets anywhere near is mock orange, but it's just SO strong that it's too much in my little back garden. I picked a few cuttings from my local park massive mock orange bush two years ago now and I am potting it on this year - it's outgrown its pot
