Blind Daff

I asked a National Trust gardener (not volunteer) why they had so many blind daffs this year (they normally have a wonderful show) and he said it was the lack of moisture mid season last year. Apparently daffs decide whether they're going to flower based upon their growth post flowering last year. It was dry last year so the bulbs didn't bulk up. Hence no flowers this year.

Perhaps Wilko's supplier didn't water them when they should have.

I'd also suggest you feed them well and let them fully die back before you lift them. That probably means June. That way the bulbs will be at their best ready for relocating.

Thanks that gives me plenty of time to work out where to plant them, I'm thinking of along the path to my new plot so I get a splash of colour early on in the year.
