  • Table hens, who dispatches them-I'm too scared

I would like to raise some birds for the table. Trouble is I know I won't be able to slaughter them my self. Can they go to a slaughter house by me and be prepared by them?

You can get a humane neck-breaker from a small-holding supplier(Ascotts) which you fix to the wall, put the chickens head in and swing down a lever.Instant death, after which the plucking is easy.
I like to take them from the house after dark, put a sock over their head, which keeps them remarkably calm, and use a sharpened cleaver and a block of wood.
Whichever way,it's not a pleasant thing to do but necessary if you want to eat your home-grown chicken.
If you really can't do it(and you can,you know)ask your local butcher. If he can't help he may know someone who can.
