  • Liquid flowing from vent??

I have noticed one of the chickens this afternoon standing out the way, all on its own being very quiet. I picked it up and inspected it, there is a fairly thick gunk coming from its vent, almost like raw egg white, however with no shell and only avery small amount. Is this a serious problem?

Could have a broken egg inside her. I think you need to get her checked by a vet. She may need antibiotics to prevent peritonitis.

The hen in question laid an egg overnight, is very happy now and has been running round the garden since 07:15 this morning, hopefully all is sorted now.

It was happy as anything all day, went into roost at 21:15 this evening, 14 hours of free ranging and it was very very happy all day. There were some people who were amazed to see her alive this morning after the way she was acting last night.

Glad she seems ok now, but do keep an eye on her as it may reoccur. Watch out for flystrike as well, it is quick to take hold.
