advice please on coop size - temp measure (mites)

HI guys

I need to move my chucks out of the coop for a couple of days, while I de-mite it. I have a spare coop, but have 7 chickens. (they will still have the run 10mx7m)

do you think this would be big enough (just overnight) for 7

When I had to do our coop last summer my lot slept in dog carriers and some just on perches in the covered run. The most important thing is that they are safe from predaters. My OH now does the perches once a month in rotation with Creocote and the coop has remained mite free.

Don't forget that the birds will squash up together at night, so unless you've got extra big ones I'm sure they'll be fine,especially just overnight. I 'think' the recommended number is based on the overall amount of space per bird including the run, not just on the little house bit where they sleep, and obviously you don't want to squish too many into a tiny run all day. My coop said it was OK for 6-8 birds, but when you see them all in the house together I'm sure I could happily squeeze at least 10 in . (They free range during the day, we don't use the integral run).

I'd say fine for overnight.

I've 6 in my coop, but they still only take up half the perch space - that's a 6' perch length for 6, yet they'll all cram up together, even in the heat.

thanks for your replies, on top of red mite I've got a chuck with a prolapse, why do these happen all at once!
