Since my Bluebell's feathers have grown back after her rapid moult she's looking decidedly grey around the back of her head, very silvery. Has anyone elses chooks gone grey as they've aged? She's about 2 1/2 years old.

Betty ( black and grey speckles) is also 2 1/2.
Her black markings are turning a sort of brown colour now.
I hadn't really noticed until we got a new chook the same original colour- and then noticed the contrast."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Chickens don't go grey like us, but the feathering can change over time, so each time a new set is grown they can come through a slightly different shade. Sometimes you can also get a blip - last year one of my cream legbars grew a few black feathers on her breast after her moult, this year she has lost them and regrown salmon coloured breast feathers. Also feathers that are yet to be moulted can go a sort of brown (as Nicos describes) as the pigment is bleached out over the summer. They usually regrow in their normal shade though.Originally posted by lettucegrow!
