flubenvet quickie

Wifey is preggo, just bought some flubenvet 1%. I'll be worming them when we're back from holiday [don't want to risk anyone looking after / collecting eggs eating them if there could be preggo, etc] - do you think when I collect the eggs, any that I don't eat myself can be fed back to the chickens?

There is no egg withdrawal with Flubenvet. You can eat the eggs as normal, pregnant or not.

However, I have to say that I was hyper cautious when I wormed my hens a few weeks ago and only used the eggs gathered over the 7 day period, plus a couple of days afterwards, when they'd been thoroughly cooked. The children tend to have soft boiled eggs quite often, and I wouldn't have been very happy with that, but that's just me!

I'm sure they are safe. Hard boil if you're not sure, but there would be notification on the packet if there was any problem.

Yes, I know there's no withdrawal, but I was just reading some evidence about it [via another forum, which pointed out that there was a small trace of elements left in the eggs, granted not enough to be harmful to humans - but then went on to read advice about being cautious if you're pregnant] -- don't want to take *any* chance with our unborn baby (obviously)

Same, that's why I'm only going to eat them - but not sure if I'll get through 21 by myself

I broke an egg today by mistake. Was going to 'chuck' it out (sic) then realised i have seven week old chicks being fed on chick crumb. Mixed the egg in with the chick crumb and they were fighting to get to it.

So yes, by all means feed the eggs back to the chooks if you like, probably cooked would be better though and mixed with their feed.

PS Cook up the egg shells and mix them in also, the added calcium will be good for them!

Thanks VVG Indeed my wife has eaten stuff that is advised against in her previous pregnancy - but this time around she's had a v.v.tough time.. so don't want to take *any* chance this time around

Snadger cool - yep just wanted to double check it was ok when worming, they're probably won't be any left over as I'll have a maahoooooosive omelete a couple times in the week
