Shirl - have you googled it? There are a few places that do hire them out (one is down the road from us) however, although the costs for hire seem fairly reasonable, they ask for a large returnable deposit (�200)....

well you can just take the duck eggs off my list. We lost them last night due to this chciktec incubator I got recently second hand off someone on practical poultry - it went into melt down, literally and cooked the eggs and itself.

I give up, the people I contacted have not come back so I guess they don't want to know about hatching my eggs or hiring me the equipment to do it. I am worried that the eggs have been waiting for over a week and won't be viable now anyway.

7 days plus they are no good. can you take a look on ebay and see if there is one? mind you I won't be getting any more 2nd hand incubators after my recent experience!!!

Well I have ended up with 4 light sussex - one tried but failed to get out and the other two died in the egg several days earlier (my guess by the look of them). 6 Cream Legbars due next week. Have also just set 6 more cream legbars and 6 exchequer leghorn so fingers crossed.

slow start to the season then. I have been looking at fiem mayo incubators today. It would pay for itself with the first batch of chicks sold......

Stored in near ideal conditions eggs may remain hatchable for 2 weeks, but there WILL be a higher failure rate than with fresher ones.

I'm only hatching for myself. The LS hatch was purely to get a couple of pullets to lay through the winter so if I'm lucky I should have two out of the four hatched. I find it really difficult to sell birds on to strangers - after all the effort of getting them to the POL stage I need to know that they are going to someone who will continue to look after them well. I'm really very fussy!

I know what you mean, I have turned many customers away - but i also have customers returning, which is a good sign.
