    I think I would struggle to kill and butcher/prepare a chicken for cooking. Unless we were starving.
    Did you folks go to a course or whatever to learn what to do?

      Hmm, no but I grew up in a rural area where shooting pheasants etc was very much part of life and having a pair of birds hanging on the outside door in season very common. I can’t remember when I first cleaned/prepared something but I can remember teaching my boy how to clean his first fish at 6.

        I would say that the first time my husband killed a chicken it was a young chick that was poorly. He made sure he was on his own, he was upset and it disturbed him for days but doing the deed is part and parcel of rearing chickens. It gets a bit easier easier over time.

          I can't remember the last time I ate a cockerel, used love them as a kid, my Dad reared them at the bottom of the garden.

            Aye, country life. Go get that cockerel and skin it for lunch. Then make a pot of soup with left overs.
