Layers pellets with Flubenvet?

I know I saw an advertisment in Practical Poultry mag for layers pellets which already had flubenvet mixed with them, can I find it? No!

Did anyone else see it?

It mentions it being used as a 7 day wormer. I'm assuming you only feed this product for the 7 days required, then go back to your ordinary feed? I can imagine buying a sack full if you've got loads of chickens but for most of us it's surely better to mix the stuff ourselves. For it to be effective I would have thought the dose would have to be the same as we give - and I wouldn't want them to have that all the time. I don't get it?

A 20kg sack would do 20 large fowl for about a week so if you had that many I guess it'd be ok. Mine go through 2 sacks in three weeks and thats with 7 bantams and 15 large fowl. Its cost effective though as the Flubenvet is around �16 + and the premedicated pellets are only �9 something!

Hi Flummery; Its only for me to use as a wormer for the week, I have 19 hens at the moment [might be more soon )]. Easier than mixing the powder with pellets as I'm sure a lot of it falls to the bottom of the feeder and does not get eaten by the chook,s even if I put a spalsh of olive oil with the pellets first.

Another question; my girls were last wormed in March, is it a good idea to worm them again soon?

Hi Minskey, I worm twice a year around spring and autumn and also give them fresh ground by moving the electric fencing. If they are kept on the same ground, especially with 19+ I would worm at least twice a year. How big is your pen?

Hi peeps

The pen is 50m2, but its in a 3/4 acre paddock which thyey have the run of when I'm home, even though they have decided they can see me through a window if they stand on the picnic table outside; at the moment I have the faces of two marans, a speckled sussex & 3 ex-batts peering at me through the window.

I do move the pen every couple of weeks. I think I'll order some from SPR centre as the closest stockist for me is Wisbech.

Wanted to make sure twice a year wasn't over doing the worming.

Out of interest, do you know which strength of Flubenvet is used in the feed? I remember seeing the ad for medicated feed in Country Smallholding mag, but I'm not sure if it mentioned the strength of the Flubenvet. I usually buy the larger 240g tub (gamekeeper pack, 2.5 % flubendazole), but it is getting increasingly hard to get hold of.

BTW Twice a year is not overdoing worming. I worm every time I move a pen, and that can be at least 3 times a year.

Just an update for information really as I've been looking for this product too and wasn't really looking forward to the measuring and mixing and associated problems that I've read about with other products on the market...

Having spoken to three local Marriages Agents this morning with no joy I've just called Marriages direct. There aren't very many agents for this as to be able to sell the feed with Flubenvet unless they undertake a 2-3 day course costing them �800-�1000 to obtain a licence!!

They asked how many hens I have (6) to work out how much was required and are sending me a 10kg bag for just under �14 including delivery. It should arrive within 3-4 days and all instructions etc will be included with the pellets - I'll let you know how I get on!
