Cuckoo in the nest? Pics too

Some may remember me getting three pairs of Cream legbars last year from an auction. Well one of the hens was very small and rather leghornish compared to the others, and lays oliveblue rather than sky blue eggs. I hatched some of her eggs first. With rather odd results. One beautiful CL cock and three lovely CL crested hens. And three chicks with nice dark stripes but gold heads rather than dark, who have turned into these




Do I guess that the mum was a 'homemade cl' and that these are brown leghorn type throwbacks?

Incidently the sky blue eggs I hatched next, from the other hens are totally normal. There were no goldy chicks and they are turning into typical CL adults.

As you can see, nice brown/salmon hens and silver cocks.
Ignore the black one, thats one of Festhers marans, and the little stripey thing is a barred wyandotte banty.

Interesting! The genetics defeat me pretty much but the olive egg would seem to be the clue! Lovely birds anyway.

Interesting! I would agree with your theory anyway. As long as they are healthy does it really matter? So what colour eggs will the youngsters produce do you think? Keep us posted.

TBH whatever they are I dont mind as they are very pretty, and will no doubt still lay eggs apart from at least one who is rather obviously a boy
I was intending them for sale when i set the eggs, but will keep these guys now cos I am dying to see what they look like full grown and what colour eggs they lay. And as mum obviously isnt pure CL I would never sell her other young as pure bred.
Flummery..Genetics fascinate me too and Im dying to get a book on chicken colour genetics when pennies ease off a bit.
RH what colour eggs are we betting on then? At a guess could be blue, olive, or maybe even brown? They are 9 weeks this week so a bit to go before I find out.
