cup cake has a bad leg

hi,
one of my girls has a bad leg, it was getting better, but now cant put it down at all,
can vets do anything or is it a case of putting her out of her misery as someone put it, she seems ok otherwise and still scratches herself with it, she just cant put it down

If its bruised or strained you could try Arnica gel/cream. The BHWT recommend it for ex-batts who get bruised when they're dragged out of the cages. Never tried it myself but they know plenty about chooks so might be worth a try.

Gosh- poor thing!
Is she an ex batt?- they have more fragile bones.
Is there any swelling or heat anywhere along her leg or under her foot?
Is there anywhere you squeeeze gently which makes her uncomfortable?
Have a fiddle around and compare the left to the right leg.
It seems a bit strange that it was getting better and then got worse again.
Sounds like it's going to heal given a chance.
Is she jumping down from a height?

Does she have any obvious swelling or puncture marks?

One of my Batties was hobbling a few weeks ago, and looked like she had a lump under her foot (Bumblefoot?). She could still run/fly fast enough that I couldn't catch her to examine her. So, rather than catch her at night, and isolate her, then take her to the vet, I decided to keep an eye on her, and by the following evening she was putting weight on it, and after a couple of days she was walking on it normally.

she is an exbat and we have had them for nearly two months, they were in fabulous condition as well when we got them, they are blooming now

she has no obvious swelling, once i let her out of the run she had a trot round and seemed better, we only let them out into the garden when someone is at home as we lost our last lot to mr foxy, so i am over cautious with these new girls.

she trotted along when we went out with some food and was walking better after a stretch of her legs.

also i did nt realise until reading another thread that some vets wont look at chooks, i will have to check with mine just in case!!

i hope she gets better she looks so well other wise, so fingers crossed

A exbat hen arrived at our allotment with a damaged leg 3 years ago with 5 others 3 have sinced died but she is going on great and manages well even with the leg not being stood on if she is happy and eating leave her be she will adapt the theone with the bad leg even climbs the lader to go to bed

cup cake is still limping, but she seems ok otherwise eating and drinking, she doesnt make a noise when we had a look and feel or her leg, so for now we will leave her and just keep and eye on her.

If she was lame got better then worse again sounds like a healing injury could have got infected..or even a small cut got something stingy on it... was it a wet day she was bad again? My best for breeding (though not most dominant) roo is lame at the moment have to give him anti-biotics twice a day by beak! Easier than I expected!

I am just looking a crumble now and she is looking better, as soon as she hears food maybe on the way, she can still manage an excited trot, so i'm not worrying to much now.
