Recommendations for hen keeping book please?

a really good, but ancient, text is Robert Stroud's Manual to the diseases of birds. For those that dont recognise the name he is the original "birdman of alcatraz" very very informative book but sadly impractical as the chemicals etc he uses are no longer available to you or i, but the back ground knowledge and entimology is exceptional.
